March 25, 2015 marked a very momentous occasion for the Las Vegas-based, family owned and operated RV Dealer, Johnnie Walker RV. The original location, a 48-year-old renovated mobile home which created served thousands of happy campers through the years, was demolished to make way for the new flagship facility, or "Camping Lodge," as it has been dubbed.
The original facility was originally facility was assembled by John L. “Johnnie” Walker and his father a few years after the company’s founding in 1963. Through the years, this mobile home served as the company’s primary location. All RV paperwork and pickups from any of the dealership’s three locations took place there; thus, every Johnnie Walker RV customer touched this location at some point in doing business with the company.
As the mobile home aged, maintenance issues became a recurring problem. For example, during infrequent rainy days in Las Vegas, it would also rain inside the old mobile home! But despite the creaky floors, narrow hallways, and low lighting among other deficiencies, there was still something special - a nostalgic “homey” feeling - that customers would sense when walking down the old hallway in the building.
Countless memories were made during Johnnie Walker RV’s time at the old structure. Emotions ran high on demolition day for many JWRV employees, family, friends, and all those who were able to attend. Johnnie, his son and JWRV President, John “West,” and his grandson and JWRV Marketing Director, Michael, were able to play a part in the historic demolition event, with Johnnie making the first blow to the building with the backhoe.
As of April 2015, the new state-of-the-art Johnnie Walker RV “Camping Lodge” is now operational, and capable of serving RV enthusiasts in a host of new ways. The memory of the old structure, and the roots of where Johnnie Walker RV was originally founded, will always remain in the hearts of Johnnie Walker RV friends and family.
